Robsten Update: Who is Moving Out?

With new damaging photos out of Kristen Stewart totally macking on Rupert Sanders, we have an update on the living situation between the actress and what is seeming more and more like her EX boyfriend.

Converse to previous reports, sources now say Stewart is the one moving out of the home she had been sharing with Robert Pattinson in Los Angeles.

Robsten in London

People Magazine even has a photo up of a moving truck parked outside the residence Saturday morning, while it quotes a source who says Pattinson is in terrible emotional shape.

"The entire thing has been such a blow to Rob. Talk about having his heart ripped out," says the insider. "Rob just isn't going to be able to get past the cheating – one time or not."

It was a lot more than one time, a relative of Sanders' has come out and said, though this relative doesn't seem to have any first-hand knowledge.

Either way, the result is the same: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart really do appear to be over, making the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6 a must-watch: they are scheduled to present together.

BITTER TWEET

Politicians beware: those tweets can land you in hot water with your boss.

Prime Minister David Cameron has lambasted a lawmaker in his own Conservative Party. Aidan Burley called the Olympic opening ceremony "multicultural leftie crap."

"I did once say something about people who use Twitter, particularly politicians, and I think in this case I was absolutely spot on," Cameron told the BBC on Monday. "It was an idiotic thing to say."

Burley, who was forced to quit as a ministerial aide after attending a Nazi-themed bachelor party last year, made the tweet during the show on Friday: "The most leftie opening ceremony I have ever seen - more than Beijing, the capital of a communist state! Welfare tribute next?"

Later, he added: "Thank God the athletes have arrived! Now we can move on from leftie multicultural crap. Bring back red arrows (sic), Shakespeare and the Stones!"

WATER RINGS

Eleven meters high and 24 meters long, they dominate the view from the south bank of the River Thames in central London. "It is kind of showy," says Shanice Collins, 19, from Birmingham.

The structure sits on a barge in the middle of the river where throngs of tourists walk past every day, making it very difficult for anyone to ignore the fact that the Olympics are in town.

Shanice thinks they are a good thing, though. She seems especially worried about London's recent bad press. "If it makes the city look good and it doesn't give us that bad riot mentality that everyone thinks we have, then I think it is a good thing."

CHINA DIVING GOLD

Yuan Cao and Yanquan Zhang of China are the gold medal winners in the men's synchronized 10-meter dive.

The Chinese trailed the hometown Brits after three dives, but executed nearly flawlessly in the second half of the event. The partisan crowd was hopeful to see the hometown team of Thomas Daley and Peter Waterfield keep the gold in London. They drilled their first three, leading at the halfway point while being serenaded to chants of "GB! GB! GB!"

But a rough fourth dive score of 71.28 opened the door for China. The crowd even booed the judges for giving their boys an 87.69 on their fifth dive. Mexico took the silver and the American team of Nicholas McCrory and David Boudia finished with the bronze. Britain finished fourth.

JORDAN'S FIRST PUNCH

Ihab Almatbouli is Jordan's first Olympic boxer, and now he has his nation's first Olympic boxing victory.

Almatbouli won a 19-7 decision over Nigeria's Lukmon Lawal at ExCel on Wednesday, thrilling the small delegation of Jordanian athletes and fans cheering him on and singing to him.

He is the second of five boxing brothers from Baqa'a, a Palestinian refugee camp outside Amman. Somber after his workmanlike victory, he credited God and his Cuban coach. Still, the wolf tattoo on his right bicep suggests Almatbouli might have a little more flair in store for his next fight.

MOM WATCHES, ZARA RIDES

A good time for Zara Phillips on the difficult and dangerous cross-country portion of her first Olympic equestrian eventing competition. The 31-year-old Phillips, Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter, finished well under the pace time with 9 minutes 55.11 seconds, cheered on wildly by thousands of fans ? some of them royal ? in London's oldest royal park.

Princes William and Harry watched her from the main equestrian arena, joined by William's wife, Kate, and Camilla, the wife of Prince Charles. Seated alongside them were Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, the daughters of Prince Andrew. Phillips' mother, Princess Anne, watched from the grounds of the twisty, hilly 5.7-kilometer course dotted with 28 obstacles.

SPARTACUS' DEFENSE

Fabian Cancellara is planning to defend his time-trial gold medal.

The man known as "Spartacus" had his Olympic future thrown into doubt when he crashed while trying to navigate a right turn late in Saturday's road race. Cancellara had broken his collarbone earlier this year at the Tour of Flanders, and was worried that he'd done it again.

He was taken for X-rays that turned out negative, and the four-time world champion said Monday that he's planning to race through the pain Wednesday at Hampton Court Palace.

"I feel better with every hour passing," he says. "I have to be positive, otherwise I would have been home already. I'm a hard man."

Swiss team doctor Andreas Goesele likened the spill to being in a "car crash, with a whiplash injury." He also said that Cancellara would have to ride through pain because the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of prohibited substances limits what he can prescribe.

Cancellara remains one of the favorites for the race, along with reigning world champion Tony Martin of Germany and Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins of Britain.

DIVING DERRING-DO

The Brits are still searching for that first gold medal of the games, and the partisan crowd at the Aquatic Center is trying to will their boys to one in the men's synchronized 10-meter dive.

Thomas Daley and Peter Waterfield are putting on quite a show, too.

The arena roars every time the step out on to the platform, and they have responded with three tremendous dives to surge into the lead at the halfway point.

They're in the seventh position of eight, and just ripped a pair of back 3 1/2 somersault tucks that scored 91.08.

They are just in front of China and the Germany with three dives to go.

ZOE'S HOME CROWD

The decibel level in the weightlifting arena reached new heights as 18-year-old Zoe Smith set a British clean and jerk record of 121 kilograms in the "B'' session of the women's 58-kilogram category on Monday. She also went for a British record in the snatch, but tensed up and missed.

"At first I was getting used to the fact that there were that many people and maybe that's why I sort of messed up the snatches a little bit," Smith says. "I think I was just overwhelmed."

Smith must now wait for the higher-ranked lifters in the "A'' group to compete to find out where she places, though her 211-kilogram total is unlikely to be enough for a medal.

Cintron took the ring today sporting a classic mullet, but with a twist. He also has a jagged strip of blond dyed hair across the top of the business-in-front part, and much of the party-in-the-back section is also blond.

Cintron's headgear popped off in the middle of an exchange during his fight with Botswana's Oteng Oteng, giving fans an extra look. He then won a 14-12 decision over Oteng, ensuring the mullet will live to fight another day.

SECURITY RIVALRY

All's fair in love, war and the Olympics? Not quite.

A security guard is under investigation after he allegedly spat at a military worker during an Olympic event and hurled verbal abuse at him for his service in Afghanistan.

He said the circumstances of the fracas weren't clear, including whether the guard was Muslim. G4S came under fire this month after admitting a shortfall of security guards for the Olympics ? an admission that forced the military to provide thousands of extra military personnel.

Matches that didn't take place in a ring

Maybe it was the Ganryujima Island Death Match that did it.

In 1987, WWE Hall of Famer Antonio Inoki fought Japanese wrestling legend Masa Saito for more than two hours through the tall grass and rocky beaches of a deserted isle. By all accounts, the bout wasn?t very good (Turns out boring matches are boring no matter where they?re held). But it was so bizarre that wrestling fans couldn?t stop talking about it. Suddenly, the matches that had been confined to rings in arenas and armories for decades were free to go anywhere.

Since then, Superstars and Divas have settled scores in junkyards, swimming pools filled with pudding and, on at least one occasion, a Canadian man?s basement. Here, WWE Classics steps outside of the squared circle to look at seven of these unique bouts that did not take place in a ring. Ropes? Where we?re going, we don?t need ropes. Japan flags China military's policy role as potential risk

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan on Tuesday flagged as a potential risk a possible rise in Chinese military's role in shaping Beijing's foreign policy and said aspiring nuclear power North Korea remained a serious regional threat under its new leader.

In its annual defense white paper, Tokyo cited views that relations between China's army and the Communist Party were "getting complex" and said they were a matter of concern. It did not elaborate on how ties between the military and Party had changed.

"This situation calls for attention as a risk management issue," the paper said.

The report comes out at a time when China's senior officers, intelligence advisers and maritime agency chiefs have been increasingly outspoken in calling for Beijing to take a tougher line in regional territorial disputes with rival claimants.

In referring to those disputes, which include a long-simmering row with Japan in the East China Sea, Tokyo's views echoed the findings of a 2011 paper which welcomed China's growing role on the world stage while noting its increasingly aggressive moves.

"China has responded to conflicting issues involving Japan and other neighboring countries in a way that has been criticized as assertive, raising worries about its future direction."

Just like a year ago, Tokyo also noted China's rapid military build-up, particularly that of its navy, pointing out that Beijing's defense budget has risen 30-fold in the past 24 years.

SUPERPOWERS FLEX MUSCLES

As well as the Japan-China row over islets in the East China Sea, tensions have risen in the South China Sea as Beijing has become more assertive in its claim to the area in the face of opposition from neighboring countries.

The stakes have risen in the region as the U.S. military has shifted its attention and resources back to Asia in the past year.

In the white paper, Tokyo reaffirmed the importance of its alliance with the United States. "The presence of U.S. forces stationed in Japan functions as deterrent against regional contingencies, and it brings the sense of security to countries in the region," it said.

The official reassurance comes against a backdrop of public protests against the planned deployment of U.S. Osprey military hybrid helicopter-planes to a U.S. Marine base in Okinawa, because of concerns about their safety.

And in its first defense white paper since Kim Jong-un took over the reins of power in Pyongyang, Japan said the secretive state's militaristic strategy meant it remained a major security threat.

"After the death of National Defence Commission Chairman Kim Jong-il, First Chairman Kim Jong-un frequently visited the military and referred to the importance of the military. Its stance of regarding the military as important and relying on it will likely be maintained," it said.

"North Korea is working hard to develop weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles ... Moves like this are heightening tensions on the Korean peninsula and constituting a grave destabilizing factor for security in east Asia."

Japan, along with South Korea, sit well within the range of the North's medium-range Nodong missiles.

Climate change report appears to reject NDIR flood findings - Local ...

Email Print

The Productivity Commission?s draft report on climate change appears to dismiss the key recommendations of the Natural Disaster Insurance Review (NDIR), according to the three members of the review panel.

NDIR Chairman John Trowbridge, TAL Ltd CEO Jim Minto and leading plaintiff lawyer John Berrill have written a joint submission, as individuals, to the Productivity Commission Draft Report into Barriers to Effective Climate Change Adaptation, questioning why the report appears to reject much of their reasoning and recommendations.

They say the chapter dealing with insurance devotes considerable attention to flood insurance in a manner that ?implicitly challenges and by inference appears to dismiss, the primary recommendations of the NDIR and the arguments that support those recommendations?.

Their submission says the commission may not have appreciated the full measure of the NDIR recommendations and the reasoning behind them. They say the underlying question to be answered is whether the Government should contribute to a solution to making flood insurance more affordable.

The commission?s draft report argues against premium subsidies, saying ?governments should not subsidise premiums for household or business property insurance, whether directly or by underwriting risks. This would impose a barrier to effective adaptation to climate change,? the report says.

The panel members say that without premium discounts, affordability is a genuine problem for some homeowners who now have no incentive to mitigate their flood risk.

They say discounts with claim subsidies proposed by the NDIR would not compromise incentives if the discount system is well designed. Their inquiry was well aware of the need to avoid ?perverse incentives? that discourage people from reducing their risk.

Mr Trowbridge told insuranceNEWS.com.au that flood cover to high-risk properties cannot be made available without some form of government involvement.

?There are people without flood cover who would like it but believe they cannot afford it,? he said.

?The affordability problem needs to be solved if flood cover is to be provided where it is needed and the flood risk is to be properly managed.?

The draft report recommends the Government should only require all household insurers to offer flood cover if it can be demonstrated that the benefits to the wider community will exceed the costs.

The NDIR members say cost-benefit concerns can be satisfied if the Government is prepared to review its total financial assistance during floods and redirect some of it towards insured homeowners.

While improved disclosure and information collection is supported, it will not solve the flood insurance problem and does not deal with affordability.

Their submission says the introduction of the standard flood definition and key facts statements are ?minor? steps forward.

They also note that the Productivity Commission makes several references to Government-proposed reforms but not the NDIR recommendations.

China cash in on UK diving error to take Olympic gold

China's Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan won 10m platform diving gold Monday after Britain's Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield fell from top spot and out of the medals following a botched dive.

The Chinese teenagers tallied 486.78 points from their six dives to win the event from Mexio's Ivan Navarro and German Sanchez, who took silver, and American bronze-medallists David Boudia and Nicholas McCrory.

Cao, 17, and Zhang, 18, who won both the Beijing and Moscow legs of the 2012 world series and also triumphed in February's test event, claimed gold on their Olympic debuts.

It leaves China with two golds from the opening two competitions after diving diva Wu Minxia claimed her third synchronised 3m springboard Olympic victory alongside partner Hi Ze on Sunday.

A mistake on their fourth dive cost British pin-up Daley and his partner dearly as they surrendered their lead to finish the round, and ultimately the competition, in fourth.

With ear-splitting support from the home crowd, the Brits had tied China's Cao and Zhang for the lead after the first round, then pulled clear of the Chinese to establish a narrow advantage in the second and third round.

But a mistake in their execution on the fourth dive, a reverse three-and-a-half somersault with a tuck, handed China a lead which they never relinquished.

The teenagers consolidated their lead in the fifth round, then made sure of gold with a near-perfect score of 99.36 for their final pike dive. China are bidding to sweep all eight diving gold medals at London's Aquatics Centre.

Romney builds ties in Israel, woos voters at home

(AP) ? Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will confront some of the world's most difficult peace and security challenges on Sunday as he looks to demonstrate to Jewish and evangelical voters back home that he's a better friend to Israel than Democratic President Barack Obama.

Romney faces high stakes as he begins a series of talks with top Israeli officials and meets with the Palestinian prime minister. Mindful of polls back home that show a tight presidential contest, the former one-term governor is looking to burnish his foreign policy credentials and prove his mettle as a possible commander in chief. The trip is a chance for Romney to draw implicit contrasts with Obama and demonstrate how he would lead America on the world stage.

But Romney arrived in Jerusalem Saturday night after a difficult few days in Britain, where he made the mistake of criticizing the country's Olympic Games and raised the hackles of his hosts. The gaffe undermined the stated goal of his weeklong journey through Britain, Israel and Poland: emphasizing America's ties with longstanding allies.

"In a time of turmoil and peril in Israel's neighborhood, it is important that the security of America's commitments to Israel will be as clear as humanly possible. When Israel feels less secure in the neighborhood, it should feel more secure of the commitment of the United States to its defense," Romney said in a Friday interview with the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz.

What he's not doing: Specifically outlining how a Romney presidency would approach Iran's nuclear program, the escalating civil war in Syria, and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process differently from Obama. As Romney visits, Israel's leaders are weighing a military attack on Iran, warily watching the shaky regime in neighboring Syria and Mideast peace talks are going nowhere.

Romney has pledged not to criticize Obama while on foreign soil, honoring longstanding American tradition of leaving politics at the water's edge. In London on Thursday, he said he also didn't think it appropriate to discuss foreign policy while overseas.

In interviews with Israeli newspapers ahead of his arrival, Romney has both criticized Obama and commented more extensively on policy details.

"Iran is closer to nuclearization than it was when President Obama took office. It is hard to feel that the events of the last three and a half years have strengthened America's posture and promoted the prospects of peace," Romney told Hayom, a conservative Israeli publication bankrolled by billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. Romney was still in the U.S. when he spoke to the paper, though his remarks weren't published until Friday, when he was already abroad.

In the interview with Ha'aretz, Romney urged caution in supporting rebel forces in Syria. He's previously said the U.S. should do more to arm the opposition there, but reports this week say Islamist terror groups could now be an element of rebel forces, prompting caution from U.S. officials.

"I think it is important for the responsible nations of the world to seek to understand which forces in Syria represent real change, rather than the kind of destruction that might occur if al-Qaeda were to seize the development of chaos and assert leadership in some significant way in Syria," Romney said Friday.

Romney will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a host of Israeli security officials. He'll also meet with Israeli President Shimon Peres and the leaders of Israel's political opposition. Romney will also hold a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, though his advisers say he didn't have time to meet with Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas.

He'll also deliver a speech in Jerusalem, where advisers say he will "lock arms" with Israel. Romney doesn't plan to outline specific policies in the address, which he'll make outdoors near the historic Old City.

Romney plans to spend the evening dining at Netanyahu's home ? the Israeli leader invited Romney and his wife to break the fast for the Jewish holiday Tisha B'Av. The holy day, celebrated Sunday, commemorates the destruction of two temples in Jerusalem. Romney and Netanyahu have known each other since both were young businessmen at Boston Consulting Group in the 1970s.

On Monday, Romney plans a fundraiser with top American supporters in Israel, some guests have flown in from the U.S. specifically for the event. His campaign has barred reporters from covering his comments to the 50 or so wealthy backers who will gather at the luxurious King David Hotel ? all of whom will have donated $50,000 or raised at least $100,000. Keeping the remarks private is a change from how Romney handles fundraisers in the United States, where a group of reporters are allowed into events held in public spaces like hotels.

Expected among the attendees is Adelson, who has pledged to spend $100 million to defeat Obama and who has given millions to a third-party group supporting Romney's presidency.

While Romney is left to implicit contrasts with his Democratic opponent, Obama has been focusing on Israel, signing legislation on Friday increasing military and civilian ties between the U.S. and Israel. And he authorized the release of an additional $70 million in military aid for Israel, a previously announced move that appeared timed to Romney's trip.

Amazon - Marley - Medium - Adult - Female - Bird

Marley is an Amazon. She is a good bird and has never bitten anyone, ever. She appears to have some sight issues which cause her to be afraid of to much motion. When approached by voice she is much calmer and does not squak so much. She is really a great bird for that perfect someone. I do not think active children around or other parrots would be good for Marley. Her fee is $275.00 Please see the company info for all information on adopting this or any bird from M.A.R.S.

'Selena' star Lupe Ontiveros dies of cancer at 69

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Veteran actress Lupe Ontiveros, who appeared in scores of TV shows and movies including "Desperate Housewives," ''Selena" and "As Good As It Gets," has died. She was 69.

Ontiveros died Thursday at a hospital in Whittier, Calif., a suburb southeast of Los Angeles, after a brief battle with liver cancer, according to longtime friend and family spokesman Jerry Velasco.

She was perhaps best known for her role in "Selena," the 1997 biopic based on the life story of the Tejano pop star. Ontiveros played Yolanda Saldivar, who in real-life was convicted of killing Selena Quintanilla. The film launched the career of Jennifer Lopez, who played the title part.

But that was only one of many roles. Ontiveros worked steadily in TV and film for more than 35 years.

"I want to go from the set to the grave," she quipped in 2010 while receiving a lifetime achievement award from the National Association of Latino Independent Producers. "From the stage to the grave, that's how I want go."

Her credits include "Real Women Have Curves," TV's "Desperate Housewives" and ? as in "The Goonies" ? many, many turns as a housekeeper. She once estimated she played a maid more than 300 times on the stage and screen.

"I've had a hell of a good time playing those maids," she told LA Weekly in 2002. "Each one to me is very special ... No matter how much I resent the stupidity that is written into them, the audacity that the industry has when they portray us in such a nonsensical, idiotic, such ? oh my God! ? such a degrading manner, still, my humor survives in these maids. I'm very proud of them."

Born Guadalupe Moreno in El Paso, Texas, on Sept. 17, 1942, Ontiveros caught the acting bug in 1972 when she answered a newspaper ad for movie extras. She went on to help establish the Latino Theater Company in Los Angeles and advocated for Latino performers throughout her career.

"She worked tirelessly to perfect her craft and open doors for countless Latinos along the way," said Alex Nogales, president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition. "Hollywood never gave her the lead role, but in our hearts she will be remembered as our leading lady. She will be deeply missed by all of us."

Ontiveros is survived by her husband, three sons and two granddaughters.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? To his friends, Neil E. Prescott was a "gentle giant" ? a physically towering young man with a background in computers and electronics and a sarcastic, even biting, sense of humor that people close to him knew to shrug off as innocuous.

But police say they had no choice but to take it seriously when Prescott threatened to shoot up his workplace and referred to himself as "a joker," comments that raised particular alarm in the wake of last week's mass shooting at a Colorado theater during the latest Batman movie. The man accused in the Colorado shootings dyed his hair reddish-orange, and New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has said the man called himself the Joker ? a reference to Batman's nemesis.

Prescott was taken into custody early Friday at his apartment in Maryland, where officers found several thousand rounds of ammunition and a cache of about two dozen weapons including semi-automatic rifles and pistols. He was receiving an emergency psychiatric evaluation at a hospital and had not been charged as of Saturday afternoon.

Two friends told The Associated Press Saturday that they couldn't imagine that Prescott, who was in the process of being fired or already had lost his job, intended to be taken seriously when he allegedly told a supervisor: "I'm a joker and I'm gonna load my guns and blow everybody up."

"Neil's the kind of guy who had the ability to say the wrong thing at the wrong time and not mean anything by it. So to him, he thinks it's funny. He's kind of a joker," said Wesley Weber, who said his friend, at 6 feet 7 inches, was a "gentle giant" prone to bouts of exaggeration who "talked big but didn't walk the walk."

Prescott is "no stranger to sarcasm regardless of political correctness," and is fond of T-shirts with sarcastic, provocative or even inflammatory remarks, said another friend Mike Cochran. When first approached by officers, police say, Prescott was wearing a shirt that said "Guns don't kill people. I do."

"The Neil I know made those comments sarcastically in an environment where he felt he could make them without being taken seriously," Cochran said in an email.

Friends say that over the years, Prescott had been interested in hobbies such as computers, electronics and ham radios. His clique of friends would gather several years ago at nighttime parties to play multi-player video games and consume the highly caffeinated Jolt cola, Weber recalled. A sometime disc jockey, he'd also spin house music at Baltimore nightclubs and was the DJ for Cochran's bachelor party in 2005.

In recent years, though, he'd cultivated a passion for collecting firearms. He'd practice his shot at the training range, friends said, and communicate online with fellow gun enthusiasts about the ins and outs of firearm equipment and gun laws. At least some of the firearms recovered from his apartment in Crofton, near Annapolis, appear to have been acquired legally, authorities said.

A search for Neil Prescott on a website that tracks users' online activities led to a profile that appears to be him on mdshooters.com, a website for Maryland gun hobbyists. On it, he trades advice about firearms with technical know-houw and at times conveys concern about break-ins near his apartment and details interactions with the police.

Cochran, who also posts on the site, said he received one message from Prescott last November that said: "Might be sleeping in tomorrow, just had a suspicious male at my door. Notified PD but am gonna be lookin out tonight. Some crazy breakins near me recently."

In March, he provoked a spirited back-and-forth on the site when he complained that two police officers responding to a possible break-in at a nearby apartment "told me never to answer the door on my own property carrying." He said he called a sergeant to complain.

Last week, he was still on the site, talking with fellow users about 30-round magazines and boasting about his night-vision goggles.

"During the power outage i spent lots of time loading mags and mounting lights, when the zombie apocalypse comes i'll be ready," he wrote.

Maryland state court records for Prescott list only a speeding ticket in 2007.

Police say Prescott, an employee of a subcontractor for software and mailroom supplier Pitney Bowes, made the threats during two Monday morning phone conversations with a supervisor. The supervisor, who declined to comment Saturday to a reporter who showed up at his house, said the comments made him fear for his life and that he was aware of Prescott's weapons' cache.

Prescott at one point said he wished to see his supervisor's "brain splatter all over the sidewalk," but also acknowledged that he shouldn't be saying such things over the phone, according to an application in support of a search warrant. The threats were then reported to the police, who paid an initial visit to Prescott's apartment on Thursday before taking him into custody Friday morning.

Cochran said he's known Prescott since 2001, when they were colleagues at a technical support outsourcing company. He said Prescott was a network engineer.

"With his skill set and education he would have had no problems finding other work with good pay. Neil did not at any point indicate to me that he had problems with where he was working," Cochran wrote.

Pitney Bowes spokeswoman Carol Wallace said Prescott had not been on any company property in at least four months. It wasn't clear why he was losing his job.

Weber said that while he didn't know the exact context of the threat, he thought it was the kind of comment that is taken more seriously now than it may have been years ago, especially one week after the Colorado shooting.

"We live in a different world now," he said.

Google Chrome 20

Twenty. That's how many versions of Google's Web-changing browser have appeared to date. But the law of diminishing returns has been in strong evidence with the last few revs, and many of the new features in them have been designed merely to get you to use Google's services more.? In fact, commenters on Google's blog about Chrome releases were mystified about what was new in 20, aside from bug and security fixes. And, indeed, Chrome 20 is mostly about fixing existing features?over 6,000 updates in all?but many of the updates add support for Windows 8. Speaking of Windows, Chrome is also available for Mac and Linux, but this review focuses on the Windows version.

No matter, it's still the most capable Web browser, thanks to blazing speed, and ground-breaking features and technology support.? Hurtling it over the crowd are unique features like Chrome Instant, built-in Flash and PDF display, leading Web standards support, and a minimalist application window that lets Web pages shine unimpeded. The competition?Firefox 9 (Free, 4 stars), Internet Explorer 9 (Free, 4 stars), Safari 5.1 (Free, 4 stars), and Opera 11.60 (Free, 4 stars)?still struggles to equal Chrome's Spartan user interface, speedy operation, and emerging standards support.

Chrome's speed is boosted by hardware acceleration, the use of your PC's graphics processor to speed up operations, a first introduced by IE9. To this Chrome's adds support for 3D WebGL graphics that even works on older computers, such as those running Windows XP?something IE9 can't boast. Chrome is also the fastest browser to start up, as my testing shows.

But speed involves more than pure performance. Speed also comes with new standards support, in Chrome's case, for Google's SPDY initiative, which rewrites the basic transport protocol of the Web?HTTP. SPDY eliminates redundant interactions and compresses some sent data to speed up browsing. Only sites that support the standard, like some of Google's own, will benefit from the speedup, however.

Another speeder-upper comes in the form of Chrome's many "instant" features. First, there was Google Instant, by which Web search results start appearing as soon as you start typing in the Google search box. Then came Instant Pages, in which Chrome tries to guess which link you're likely to click on next, and preload that page in the background. Another "instant" feature, pre-loads the first-proposed autocomplete site in the background when you start typing in the browser's address bar, so that it springs into view instantly when you click on the auto suggestion's entry.

As it increases in popularity, Google Chrome is becoming more and more a conduit for Google's Web services, and the services themselves in turn are being honed for Chrome. The browser's new tab page is tweaked to give more prominence to the Chrome Web app store.

Chrome boasts all the Web browser tools we've come to expect: bookmark syncing, a built-in PDF reader, and extensions. The browser's fine design, compatibility, and especially the speed have impressed the Web community enough to make Chrome the fastest growing browser in terms of market share. On this measure, it's got anywhere from 19 to 34 percent, depending on whose numbers you believe. Let's take a look at what makes this browser so special.

Swift Setup
Even the setup process shows Chrome's commitment to speed: Just click the Install button on the Chrome Web page, and you'll have the browser up and running in less than a minute, with no wizard to go through and no system restart. The browser's available for Mac OS X and Linux, as well as Windows. It also updates itself automatically in the background.

Starting with version 17, a change in the first-run appearance of the browser occurred. You still saw a generous dialog box giving you the option to use Bing, Google, or Yahoo as your search engine, but the first view of the browser window asks you to sign into a Google account. This doesn?t change the behavior of the browser, but it does show Google?s increasingly solipsistic view of the Web, and raises concerns about browser tracking. On the plus side, it does give you the benefit of being able to sync your different browser settings and bookmarks on different computers (more on this later).

Chrome Instant Pages
Not to be confused with Chrome Instant (see below) or Google Instant (which works on all browser to load Google search results as you type), Chrome Instant Pages requires both Chrome and a site that supports the feature. Of the latter, there is now just one important one: Google Search. The idea is that when you perform a search in Google, the browser will pre-load the page for the result link you're most likely to click on.

In several tests on a slower Wi-Fi connection, however, I only noticed an occasional improvement for simple pages. It seemed only to work for the first result link. Heavy multimedia sites still took their time to load. On a very fast wired connection, some page result were extremely fast, but in that case, you don't really benefit from pre-loading. I saw a definitely faster load for grainger.com than in Opera on the same connection. The idea makes a lot of sense though, particularly for multipage articles, where it's most likely that the next link you'll hit is the one labeled "Next."

The only drawback: If the site guesses your next click wrong, page load could be slower than without Instant Pages, and you'll have wasted bandwidth loading a page you never visited. But this is a technique that's been done using JavaScript or HTML and CSS for years, so I'm not sure why we need a browser-specific solution to preloading pages, but Instant Pages does have the ability to load outside sites, rather than just pages of your own. If you don't like the idea of your browser loading pages before you click on a link, you can turn off the feature in the Under the Hood section of Options (accessible from the wrench icon), and uncheck "Predict network actions to improve page load performance."

Built-in Flash and PDF Support
Chrome is the only browser to come with Adobe Flash built in, rather than requiring a separate (and annoying) installation. And not having to perform the frequent required updates of the Flash plugin separately is another boon?it updates automatically with the browser. With version 10, many of the security issues with Flash (famously bemoaned by Apple's Steve Jobs) went away, thanks to running the plugin in an isolated sandbox so that it doesn't have access to critical system areas.

Chrome boasts a PDF reader as well, so you don't have to worry about installing any Adobe plugins for viewing specialized Web content. When you load a PDF, an intuitive toolbar shows when your mouse cursor is in the southeast vicinity of the browser window. From this, you can have the document fill the width of the window, show a full page, or zoom in and out. By default, you can select text for cutting and pasting, but I couldn't copy and paste images. You can print the PDF as you would any Web page.

Chrome's PDF viewer not only does what its name implies, but also serves as a print preview feature. Unlike IE's print preview, Chrome's shows up in a tab rather than its own window. But you have to go through it to print: In IE, I can just click the printer icon to send a page to the printer if I don't want to fuss with settings. I could choose between color and B&W, portrait and landscape, and choose the target printer, or print to PDF.

An Advanced button got me into the printer's own settings dialog, but this dismissed the print preview, making me have to choose Print from the menu again. But Chrome didn't let me choose a zoom percentage for the printout as Firefox and IE did, nor did it let me turn page headers on and off or choose margin sizes in a Page Setup dialog as those two did. So Chrome's print preview is a decent start, but it's still a bit behind the competition.

Interface
Minimalism has been a hallmark of Chrome since its first beta release. Tabs are above everything, and the only row below them holds the combined search/address bar, or "Omnibox." Here you can type any part of an address or page title, and the most likely site candidates will be presented in a dropdown. Optionally you can display bookmark links in a row below this. And the control buttons on the top-right of the browser window have been reduced to the absolute minimum?just one.

Google has removed the Page icon and placed some of its functions under the wrench button. Some of the Page options have been combined into buttons on one line in the menu, such as Cut, Copy, and Paste. I like what Google's done with the Zoom choice on the menu, adding plus and minus buttons that save you from having to fly out another submenu.

Another theme in the Chrome interface is that everything looks like a Web page, displaying in the main browser window, rather than in separate dialog boxes. This includes the interfaces for History, Extensions, Bookmarks, and even Options.

Mac users haven't been overlooked in the interface department, either. The browser supports OS X Lion's full screen view, along with overlay scrollbars that only appear when you're scrolling. Other more minor characteristics of the OS X "Aqua" style give Chrome on the Mac a more Mac-y appearance.

Emmy producer says memorial tribute a challenge

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) ? The producer of this year's Emmy Awards said it's a challenge to decide who to include in the ceremony's memorial tribute.

About three-dozen stars and other industry notables typically are honored in the "in memoriam" segment, although many more are deserving, executive producer Don Mischer said Friday.

He said he and the TV academy identify the late actors and other TV notables who will create an "emotional response" among Emmy viewers. That drew a wry observation from Jimmy Kimmel, who will host the Sept. 23 awards on ABC.

"I love that even in death, you're subject to a popularity contest," Kimmel said.

Omissions typically are more an issue for the Oscars than the Emmys. But some viewers objected when the death of "Taxi" star Jeff Conaway wasn't noted in last year's Emmy tribute.

Other than the host, the segment is consistently the audience's favorite part of the telecast, Mischer said told a meeting of the Television Critics Association.

He was asked if Andy Griffith, who died July 3 at age 86, would get special attention because of the actor's beloved 1960s comedy, "The Andy Griffith Show," and his subsequent long-running legal drama, "Matlock."

There are ways to focus attention on individuals with a unique position in the industry, Mischer said, such as placing their tribute at the beginning or end of the memorial segment.

ABC late-night host Kimmel was asked if he was annoyed the network didn't ask him to host the Emmys the last time it aired the awards, in 2008. The emcee job went to five reality TV show hosts, including Jeff Probst of "Survivor" and Heidi Klum of "Project Runway," who were roundly panned.

Kimmel said he took some satisfaction in the outcome.

"I was able to look good by not doing anything at all. That's my goal in life, by the way," he said.

Using Banner Ads In Your Pay Per Click ... - Online Business Articles

?

Pay per click banner advertising allows businesses to reach prospective customers with attention-getting, graphically-robust display ads and still take advantage of the highly targeted benefits of search advertising.

Of course, when most people think about online search advertising (and, yes, people do think about online search advertising), they think of the text ads that appear on the search results pages of Google and other search engines. These three-line ads are the mainstay of pay per click advertising programs, and they?re a highly effective tool in attracting internet users to your website for the specific products and services they?re currently seeking.

In fact, these ?word ads? are so synonymous with pay per click advertising that Google named its pay per click program Google AdWords. However, these text ads are not the only form of paid search advertising. In addition to text ads, banner advertising can be an equally effective and instrumental part of a pay per click campaign.

First, let?s start with the basics: what are banner ads?

Banner ads take their name from one of the first and most popular types of online advertising ? the long, horizontal rectangles that often sit at the top of a webpage, usually above the webpage masthead or logo area. Unlike text ads that are comprised solely of words and numbers, banner ads feature graphics, imagery, and even animation. They can be simple and straightforward or highly creative. Either way, they should be attention-getting so that internet users who see these ads actually read the contents.

In addition to the long, horizontal format described above, which is formally called a ?leaderboard,? banner ads can be formatted in a number of sizes and aspect ratios. A quick surfing session on the web, and you?re likely to encounter dozens of banner ads and see the wide range of shapes used by advertisers.

So how do these ads fit into the context of a pay per click advertising campaign? After all, isn?t the space sold by the owners of the websites where they appear? Usually not.

Thousands of websites participate in the Google AdSense program, in which Google essentially ?rents? space on websites to display banner ads. In this regard, Google works as a placement agent, where advertisers can display banner ads on thousands of websites without having to work directly with the individual websites.

What?s even more important, these banner ads only serve ? or display ? to users who are searching for content relevant to the products and services you?re advertising. For example, let?s suppose you manufacture and sell patio umbrellas, and you elect to use banner advertising as part of your pay per click advertising campaign. Now, if an internet user is visiting a home and garden website and reading an article about how to decorate their patio, the banner ad for your company?s patio umbrellas may display to this relevant consumer. Essentially, the ads display on websites and on specific webpages based on the relevance to your ad.

Banner advertising works well as a companion to the more common text ads that display on search results pages. They are particularly useful in raising a brand or product?s level of awareness among a targeted group of consumers at a very low cost. That?s because the average click-through rate for a banner ad tends to be only about ten percent of the click-through rate of a typical text ad. So your banner ad can serve to hundreds of thousands of people, and you may only pay for a few clicks.

At the Pay Per Click Store, we often recommend banner advertising as part of our PPC management services for those clients that are seeking to build brand awareness, but for whom more conventional brand-building tactics ? such as billboard advertising, television advertising, or magazine advertising ? are prohibitively expensive.

The lesson here is to consider other forms of pay per click advertising other than text ads when developing your PPC advertising program. And seek the guidance and assistance of a professional firm that provides PPC services, including development of banner advertising.

The Pay Per Click Store provides pay per click advertising to businesses of all sizes and helps them achieve immediate results. I have a great life. I love my work and my friends. I love to travel and take workshops and classes. I don?t want anyone telling me what I can or can?t do. I don?t want to deal with someone feeling hurt because I want to work rather than be with him. It?s just not worth all the hassle."

Marcus, another of my clients, was also commitment phobic. "When I?m not in a relationship, that?s all I can think about it. I really want someone to play with, to love and to grow with. But soon after getting into a relationship, I start to feel trapped. I feel like I can?t do what I want to do and I start to resent the person for limiting me. Most of the time, she has no idea what?s going on and is stunned by the break-up. She thought everything was fine. After leaving her, I?m back to square one ?wanting to be in a relationship. This has happened over and over again."

Commitment phobia has its roots in the belief that when we love someone, we are responsible for their feelings rather than for our own. Once we believe that we are responsible for another?s feelings of hurt or rejection as a result of our behavior, we believe we need to limit ourselves in order to not upset the other person. Then, instead of standing up for our own freedom and right to pursue that which brings us joy, we limit our freedom in an effort to have control over mbt moto boots the other person?s feelings. This will always eventually lead to resentment.

"Marilee, " I asked in one of our phone sessions, "What if you picked someone who also loved his work and his personal freedom?"

"Frankly, I can?t imagine that. Every man I?ve been in a relationship with has wanted to spend more time with me than I have with him. Am I just picking the wrong man over and over?"

"No," I replied. "But you are not standing firm in your freedom from the beginning. You give a lot at the beginning because you enjoy being with him, but, as we?ve discussed, you also give yourself up a lot at the beginning. You make love when you don?t want to. You stay up later than you want to for fear of hurting him. Then, when you do start to tell the truth, he is surprised and hurt. Until you are willing to risk losing him from the beginning rather than lose yourself, you will continue to create relationships that limit your freedom. You end up believing that it is the relationship that limits you, but it is your own fears and beliefs that keep limiting you."

In my sessions with Marcus, he discovered that he had no idea how to stand up for himself in a relationship. As soon as a woman wanted something from him, he gave it to her. He just could not bring himself to say no. Then, of course, he ended up feeling trapped.

Marcus discovered that his fear of saying no to a woman came from two sources:

The Iraq war is a conflict between the United States of America and Iraq. In the year 2003, during the month of March, the United States army invaded Iraq. The main reason and cause for the Iraq war was Iraq development of weapons of mass destruction. The Iraqis supposedly were working on developing nuclear weapons, which was creating a threat to the security of the United States of America.

It was during the year 2003 that the president of the United States of America thought that waiting longer could create a nuisance and hence the invasion was planned .

The main cause of the war in Iraq was the information that the US got regarding the development of the weapon of mass destruction in Iraq. However, contrary to the information, the Iraq was not found to hold any such weapons.

There are a number of claims made by the US intelligence and its officials that say that the United states invasion of Iraq was due to the contacts that the US though, Saddam Hussein had with Al Quadi, which is a major terrorist activity group. Other officials said that under Saddam rule human rights were not respected in Iraq. All mbt moja these claims were put up by the US Officials to support the war between Iraq and the United States of America.

Moreover, Iraq was limiting oil it supplied to other countries from being used in the military services.

The fact that Iraq was going to start an Oil Bourse excluding the US dollar did not help any.

As far as the claims are concerned, none of the claims were true. It is interesting to know that on 20 March 2003 the US army along with the army officials of UK and some other allies invaded the Iraq. The invasion was made to get rid of Saddam Hussein rule in Iraq. The US army and the armies of the other allies of US were successful in defeating the army lead by Saddam Hussein in a very short span of time. Iraq was occupied and conquered by the US army, and for a short time, a small coalition government was found to have the situation under control. However, the coalition government was unable to maintain order. This led the Iraqi Insurgents to take up war with the US.

Most of the members of the coalition government decided to withdraw from the government and this led to failure. There are scant details of the causes leading to the invasion, and there are a large number of discrepancies and uncertainty related to this topic. Moreover, the consequences are also not clearly visible and still remain a mystery.

There are no official reports or statements that the US could provide to support the war, and its invasion in Iraq. This war has made a large number of people suffer, as there were a number of causalities have been reported in Iraq, as well as the United States military.
